Halfway Coffee

For a sense of place

A café that makes its neighbourhood part of the experience: vintage porcelain, old Hong Kong details and the antique shops of Cat Street on the doorstep. The reason to choose it is the whole coffee ritual.

Our orderA flat white in a vintage porcelain cup, or a longan honey latte for something sweeter. Rose and black-sugar lattes are other choices highlighted in Foodie’s August 2026 guide.

26 Upper Lascar Row, Sheung Wan

This is the Cat Street branch at 26 Upper Lascar Row. Plan to sit in for the porcelain-cup experience, and allow for a wait when the small room is busy. Contact: 2606 1160.

Venner

A flat white and a cinnamon-cardamom bun with a friend

Make this a coffee-and-pastry pause on Hollywood Road. Venner took over the former Hjem space with a Nordic café menu centred on small-batch bakes and coffee. A flat white is a good starting point beside the rye cinnamon-and-cardamom bun; the Norwegian custard bun, skolebrød, gives you another reason to look at the counter. Choose it for a conversation and something freshly baked, with time to settle into the small room.

Our orderA flat white with a cinnamon-and-cardamom bun. Ask about the cinnamon bun latte if you prefer a sweeter coffee, or the Norwegian custard bun when it is on the counter.

G/F, 161 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan

Look for Venner at the former Hjem address. The March 2026 guide reports a no-laptops policy on weekends. Small-batch pastries can sell out; check current opening days and the counter selection before planning around a particular bake.

An old fabric shop, a new ritual

Some of the old fabric shop’s tiles remain, giving the café a connection to the neighbourhood outside. It is a good stop for a playful coffee drink and something sweet between your street-market discoveries.

Our orderTry Three Mixed, the coffee, milk and Uji matcha combination, if it is on the menu.

A flat white and panini during a Ma Wan village wander

Choose Heato x Phare for an easy coffee-and-food stop in Ma Wan 1868. Its photographed drinks menu includes flat white, double espresso, dirty and espresso tonic, while the food gives you room to make a meal of the visit. Eunice at We4 recommends the smoked-salmon-and-avocado cheese panini. The blue-and-white café and waterside setting make this a useful place to pause between exploring the village houses.

Our orderA flat white with the smoked-salmon-and-avocado cheese panini. Ask about espresso tonic for a cold coffee, or tiramisu if you only want something sweet. These choices appear on the photographed menu; confirm today’s selection.

Pane e Latte · Stanley

An espresso-and-pastry break beside the Stanley waterfront

Choose Pane e Latte when the pastry matters as much as the cup. The Italian bakery makes its breads and pastries in-house, and its coffee menu runs from espresso and piccolo to flat white and espresso tonic. December 2025 and March 2026 visitors recommend it for coffee with pastries or cake. A classic croissant keeps the pairing simple; the truffle scrambled-egg version turns it into breakfast. The high ceiling, pink columns and large windows make sitting down part of the appeal.

Our orderA flat white with a classic croissant, or espresso with a pain au chocolat. For a sweeter coffee, try the hazelnut gianduja latte. The truffle scrambled-egg croissant is the more substantial breakfast choice.

G/F, U-C Court, 25 Stanley Market Road, Stanley

The restaurant is cashless. Its site lists weekday reservations and walk-ins on weekends and public holidays. Pastries and specials can change; check the counter on arrival. Confirm evening hours on 2337 7221, as official pages show different closing times.

AP Coffee · Coasto

Milk coffee and breakfast before exploring Ap Lei Chau

AP earns a place here as a neighbourhood milk-coffee stop. February and March 2026 visitors praise its flat white, dirty and flavoured lattes at the larger Wai Fung Street shop. Keep the first order simple with a flat white; rose and salted-caramel lattes offer a sweeter direction. The breakfast menu gives you the option of making this a meal, with bagels and avocado toast alongside the coffee.

Our orderA flat white, or a rose latte if you want something sweeter. For breakfast, check the everything bagel with two fillings or jumbo avocado toast. Ask about the dirty if you prefer cold milk with espresso.

A hand drip or honey-ginger espresso tonic

Islet’s first Kowloon branch brings its coffee curiosity to Reclamation Street. The opening coverage highlighted a neighbourhood-inspired blend and film-themed drinks; the current branch menu offers hand drip, piccolo and cold brew alongside the playful “CIAO, Ning Lok!” espresso tonic. Choose it for a coffee-led stop with enough variety to return and try something different.

Our orderAsk about the current hand-drip selection, or try “CIAO, Ning Lok!” with honey-ginger syrup, tonic, lime and espresso. The banana bread comes with espresso butter, salted caramel and mascarpone.

HAIKA Coffee

Waterfront coffee with a playful side

Camping furniture, the waterfront and a short pastry menu give HAIKA an easy island-day appeal. Erica Fong’s coffee guide picks out its iced ginger coffee and notes that beans are also sold here. This is our choice for a coffee-and-dessert break while exploring Cheung Chau.

Our orderAsk whether the iced ginger coffee and chocolate-topped “Dirty Tart” are available, or keep it simple with your usual coffee.

G/F, 57 San Hing Praya Street, Cheung Chau
